The day-care centres built by WasaCon were commissioned in Vaasa and Nokia
The two newest kindergartens of Kindergarten Verkanappulat Oy were completed in Länsiniitty in Vaasa and Harjuniitty in Nokia at the end of 2022, and they were put into operation immediately after the turn of the year. The kindergartens were built in cooperation between WasaGroup and WasaCon.
In August 2021, the cities of Vaasa and Nokia jointly launched a land transfer competition to find a developer/service provider for the day care centre.
"We've worked with Verkanappuloja on a number of successful daycare projects, and over the years we've honed our concept to work well. This was noticed by both Vaasa and Nokia, and we were chosen to implement both projects. The projects were on a tight schedule, and it was therefore important for us to have WasaCon as the main contractor for both projects," says Mikko Nyrhinen, Construction Manager at WasaGroup.

A tight schedule challenged the project team
The planning of the projects started in January 2022, construction started in the summer and the handover took place between Christmas and New Year. The log-built day nurseries will have a surface area of 930m2 and will accommodate around 100 children of early childhood education age.
Ville Sillanpää of WasaCon was the project manager for both projects.
"The simultaneous completion of two sites was quite a squeeze, but on the other hand, the projects supported each other and we were able to take advantage of synergies, for example in procurement. We could not have managed the tight construction schedule without the good cooperation of the project team - the tight schedule required professional planning and a quick response to unexpected situations that always arise on site." Sillanpää says.

Excellent result
Minna Takkula, Director of Verkanappulat Oy, is pleased with the outcome of the projects.
"The facilities seem to work well, as they were designed with a number of solutions to make everyday life easier, such as spacious corridors, easily accessible storage and enough small group rooms. I also like the way the log construction is reflected in the facilities, and the courtyards are absolutely gorgeous," he says.
Both kindergartens were implemented under the Wasa360 service model, where WasaGroup is responsible for the financing, design, implementation and maintenance of the project throughout its lifecycle.
"It's important for me to know that projects are progressing as planned, even if I'm not visiting the site every week. With WasaGroup, projects are always thoroughly planned, and what is agreed is written down and adhered to. That's what happened this time - everything went as planned," Takkula says.
