Serious accident at WasaCon Oy's Kurikka Campus construction site

A serious accident has occurred at the construction site of the Kurikka Campus of WasaCon Oy on 5 April 2018.

There were two masonry silos on the site that were being moved off site. One of the silos was being lifted by a lorry crane, causing the silo to tip over and one of WasaCon Oy's employees was trapped under the falling silo.

The worker was moved out from under the silo and lifted into an ambulance, conscious. According to the company, the worker died in the ambulance or at the hospital despite attempts at resuscitation.

Safety at the Kurikka Campus site has been at a good level and the worker who died was wearing the appropriate protective equipment. WasaCon Oy is investigating the causes of the accident together with the authorities. The police have visited the accident site and the Regional Administrative Office is continuing to investigate the accident.

WasaCon Oy focuses on providing appropriate crisis assistance to its employees and colleagues of the deceased employee in cooperation with the occupational health service following an accident that has shaken the entire work community. Crisis support has been arranged for the families of the deceased employee.

WasaCon Oy wishes peace of mind to those investigating the accident and privacy to the families and employees of the company in their grieving process.
