Construction expert Ari Paukkonen enjoys freedom at WasaCon

Ari Paukkonen joined WasaCon in 2022 as the responsible foreman. The first site was in Lohja, where the construction of new premises for Autoklinika was started.

The project has already ended and Ari has been working on the Kiuaskallion site in Kurikka. There, he has been building new and repairing old.

Ari has a long history of working in a variety of construction roles. She came to WasaCon from Lujata as a foreman in charge. He has also been an entrepreneur for more than 20 years. Ari is a construction foreman by training.

Every working day is different

But what does the job of a foreman involve?

- The site supervisor is responsible for the entire site, from safety to economy. It is important to stay on schedule and within budget and to ensure safety at work," says Ari about his responsible role. The job also includes various reporting, instruction and constant monitoring on the site to ensure that everything is running as it should, Ari explains more about his job description.

- Every day is different, every day there are new challenges to solve and every day you learn something new," says Ari. Sometimes it's busier and sometimes it's calmer, as in any job. Every morning, we go over with the workers what needs to be done during the day and what needs to be accomplished. Once a week, a safety measurement is taken and a meeting is held with the contractors. Site meetings are held once a month.

Freedom, openness and an excellent working atmosphere

What are the things that make Ari enjoy WasaCon?

- Absolutely the freedom to do things your way, within certain limits. We also have a culture of openness and an excellent working atmosphere. It's great that busy front-line staff call to check in, it makes me feel valued and appreciated," says Ari.

And what are the more unpleasant aspects of your job?

- Bad weather. Severe frosts and rain. They always spoil the mood of the working day a bit, Ari says.

Leisure at sea and on the road

Ari doesn't want to give up construction in his spare time either. In fact, he likes to assemble model railways. He also enjoys 3D drawing and printing, and computer science in general has always been close to his heart.

Ari also enjoys boating on the seas and lakes with his family and friends, and he likes to fool around with fish. If he needs even more speed than boats, he'll swap his bike for a motorbike.
